Frequently Asked Questions

What size wire do you cut with?

-          .010”, .008”, .006”, .004”, .003”, .002” diameters are all options at WDM.

-          We determine the wire size based on the requirements of the job.

What surface finish can I expect?

-          55 RA finish is typical for a rough only cut

-          4RA finishes are achievable using FM (Fine machining) and multiple passes with wire diameters .008” and smaller.

What is your shop rate?

-          $60-65 per hour depending on the wire used and automation level we are able to achieve for wire diameters .006-.010”

-          $68 per hour during machining with wire diameters .004” and smaller.  Small wire change over fees of $60-$90 also exist depending on the diameter and requirements

-        With our experience and knowledge in the field partnered with the advanced cutting technology utilized by our Mitsubishi high end machinery, our hourly rate will usually be cheaper than other competing rates.

How are jobs quoted?

-          WDM does jobs either T&M (time and materials) or we provide a firm quote.  It’s the customer’s choice.  Firm quotes will take into account any design needed, per prep, set up, programming, run times, finish work and delivery as required.  If you have specific needs concerning any of the above, being specific up front will assure accuracy in the quotation.

What are the lead times at WDM?

-          We are committed to quick turn times and helping our customers stay on schedule as our schedule allows.  Calling ahead and planning can help improve those times even more, but typically our lead times average between 1-4 days.  If scheduled in advance, we can often turn quick jobs in 24 hours if necessary.

What are your business hours?

-          WDM business hours are 9am – 5pm.  We are often available before and after hours as well.

How do I send a print or design to WDM for quotation?

-          WDM has embraced a greener solution and requests all prints/sketches be sent via email (PDF for example) to info@wdmfg.com

How do I send a CAD file to WDM?

-          Email the file or zip the file to info@wdmfg.com

-          IGES is preferred, DXF & DWG will also typically work.

-          If files are too large to email, we have a cloud based storage system that customers may place a file into if necessary
